Twelve-channel sound installation in an old WPA-built Boy Scout cabin at Camp Long in West Seattle. The interior wooden surfaces are etched with decades of graffiti, a recorded history of presence and romantic longing left by the generations of campers who have stayed here, a kind of palimpsest. These messages were traced with an amplified broken pencil and read in hushed voices. Speakers were hidden throughout the cabin, with voices and writing sounds occurring randomly amidst a soundscape of bird song.
